What a great charter on Monday. The first time Canadian customers wanted to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary by treating themselves to a day on the water while staying in their vacation home here in sunny south west Florida. The day’s request for the 4 hour fishing charter was for action, not necessarily spending hours fighting any big fish. It was bit of a struggle obtaining any live bait for the day’s trip, but finally the third bait house I tried sold us about the last 50 shrimp they had, only after telling us they were out. Once we had some bait the fish started coming over the rails. Jeff started it off with a few decent snook, and they both managed to get some small mangrove snapper to the boat before we moved on.

We found my favorite pod of dolphins in Estero Bay next, and they gave us a great show with the young one of the group almost jumping in the boat as it launched out of the wake. The next spot produced a fairly large bonnethead shark giving Jeff quite a battle on the light spinning gear, and had them both smiling ear to ear as I landed it and held it for them. We continued adding to the species list with more mangrove snapper, and some pinfish, before Cheryl caught the exotic species of the day, a good sized spiny puffer fish.

We finished the fishing part of the day with a flurry of small spotted sea trout.

On the way back to the ramp we got to see a manatee surface a few times for us to end another awesome day on Estero Bay.
